The Cornish Economy

Our Graduate Business Start Up Programme is very comprehensive and all graduates who apply will be invited along to an Open Day, after which we will assess your business and you. We will then decide whether to offer you a place on the programme.

Attending these events will enable you to really question yourself and your business model in more depth – the feedback we invariably receive is that the application process for the programme itself is very informative, insightful and really helps graduates to focus in on their business ideas with new insights which will help to reinforce their models going forward.

Open Days

  • Hear from start up experts on some of the considerations they will need to make about running a business
  • Undertake a short interview style discussion during which one of our qualified Business Development Managers will find out more about your business model and more about you
  • Meet with graduates who have previously undertaken the programme  to get an insight into the realities of running a business
  • Meet with business people who prefer to operate as a ‘one-man-band’ – self confessed freelancers who will help you establish whether this is the best model for your operation
  • Meet with other Business Support Providers whose purpose is  to support the development of new businesses
  • Take the opportunity to work out whether this opportunity of running a business is the right thing to do at this time, or do you need extra support to get a job or additional experience first?

Enterprise Boot Camps (2 Days)

  • Dissect your business motivations – Why are you doing this? What are your aspirations for the business? What do you like doing?  What are you good at?
  • Undertake some brief personality profiles to establish your personal business style and understand the way that others communicate and operate, and how this will affect your personal effectiveness in terms of working alongside other people
  • Dissect the financial, sales and marketing plans, and the operational activity and establish your plans for these areas of business management.  Where are your strengths?  What are your developmental areas?  Are your plans achievable?
  • Working alongside carefully selected Business Managers and Business Support Providers, you will have an opportunity to discuss and strategise about your business after taking part in short, informative practical activities

Pitch

  • At the end of Boot Camp, we will invite you to present a pitch on an agreed date where you will get the opportunity to combine everything you have learnt and pitch for a place on the programme in front of a panel. There will be questions too! If at the end of this process we need to know more, you may be asked to attend a short interview before we make a decision about whether you’ve been successful in securing a place on the programme
