There has never been a better time to recruit graduate level skills in Cornwall. There are many ways in which you can engage the services of a graduate and tap into recruitment support, whether that’s for a period of up to 1 week or 2 years.
1 to 4 weeks (Gateway work experience placements):
The ‘Gateway’ project, run by Unlocking Potential, will enable new and growing businesses to engage graduates in short work experience placements, where the graduates offer you an extra pair of hands at a subsidised rate.

6 weeks (Postgraduate placements):
Postgraduate placements are offered flexibly to employers who need some additional support. These placements enable students studying postgraduate courses, such as a Masters, to enage with employers and benefit from some quality, objective-focused work experience to enhance their employability and industry awareness.
8 to 12 weeks (Internships):
Internships are short projects which can be supported through Unlocking Potential or universities within the CUC partnership. The relevant organisation will help you to recruit your intern, scope out the project and will review their work at the end of the placement. For the period of the internship, the graduate becomes your employee.
6 to 12 month projects (Unlocking Potential projects):
The Unlocking Potential programme will help you to scope out your graduate role and set key objectives which support business growth. The team will then help you to recruit the graduate and support their management, development and training in their first 6 to 12 months of employment through an unrivalled package of business skills training and mentor support. In some cases, eligible graduates can attract a salary subsidy to help offset the risk of employing early level graduate skills.
12 to 24 months (Knowledge Transfer Partnerships):
KTPs are a great way for employers to tap into academic research and learning in order to accelerate business development. Offered by universities, these partnerships benefit the employer, the graduate and the Higher Education Institutions and help drive business growth.
Freelancers:
Many graduates emerge into the job market and prefer to work for themselves, especially in Cornwall where there are higher than average numbers of self-employed individuals and start up businesses. Freelancers offer their expertise and skills to businesses on a flexible basis and operate like mini businesses. The beauty of engaging a freelancer is that they employ themselves and essentially contract for you, which means you are able to engage them on a flexible basis.
