Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is Europe’s leading programme in helping businesses to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance through the better use of the knowledge, technology and skills which are available in the UK knowledge base.
Part funded by the Government, a KTP involves the formation of a partnership between a business (including private and third sector organisations) and an academic institution, along with the appointment of a recently qualified graduate who is known as the KTP Associate. The Associate is supervised in facilitating the transfer of knowledge and the embedding of a new capability within the organisation.
For further information and to hear from businesses that have benefitted visit www.ktponline.org.uk
KTP is flexible in delivery, allowing projects to vary in length between 12 to 36 months.
Once a KTP project is created by a business and academic experts, a proposed funding application is prepared, led by a project manager from the KTP Office. Upon funding, a graduate recruitment campaign is agreed and managed by the KTP Office. The KTP Associate, employed by Plymouth University, works in the business focusing on delivering the agreed project plan and also undertaking a development programme. The academic team supervise the KTP Associate, as well as transferring their knowledge to them. The KTP Office continues to handle project and financial administration, project management and HR. There are regular project and management meetings to ensure the business objectives are met and that the knowledge transfer is embedded
KTP is versatile and meets the needs of businesses through models such as:
